Sabudana Khichdi - Spicy stir-fried Tapioca -


Tapioca is popular as ingredient for drinks and sweets, and also familiar as ingredient for side dishes in India. Sabudana Khichdi (Khichri), spicy stir-fried tapioca, is usually eaten as breakfast. Please enjoy with tea, green tea, coffee, smoothie and milk shake!


◆ Ingredients

Subudana tapioca: 1 cup
Boiled potatoes: 1 middle size (cut into dice)
Tomato: 10 ml
Peanut: 20 mg (crushed)

Ginger: 7 mg (chopped)
Green Chile: 1 Cup (chopped)
Lemon juice: 7.5 ml
Vegetable oil: 25 ml
Salt: 3 mg

Mustard seed: 2.5ml
Cumin seed: 2.5ml
Curry leaves: 10 to 12 leaves
Coarsely ground pepper: 1 pinch
Asafoetida (Hing powder): 1 pinch
Coriander: for garnish

* If you want to be hot, add green chili to your liking.
* For Peanut allergy, this can be cooked deliciously without peanuts.


◆ How to make

1. Re-hydrate Tapioca

Wash the sabudana tapioca with running water and remove the powder. Tapioca: Dips water at a percentage of 1: 1 for a minimum of 5 hours and soak until the core disappears.


2. Stir fry spices, add paste tomatoes and fry it further

Heat the frying pan hot and add oil. Then add Asafoetida,  Mustard Seed, Cumin Seed,  Curry leaves on medium heat and fry. Next, boiled potatoes and tomato, and mix well. Cook at least 1 to 2 minutes.

3. Mix other ingredients with Sabudana tapioca

Add fresh coriander lemon juice, salt, ginger, green chili and peanut to Sabudana tapioca, and mix well.


4. Add Tapioca & spices to vegetables

Add Step 3 tapioca and spices to Step 2 frying pan, stir-fry well. Fry sabudana tapioca until translucent (for 2-3 minutes at medium heat)
Cautionary point: Please do not fry too much. Sabudana tapioca may become hard.
