For a truly authentic experience, consider making your own Panch Phoron at home using high-quality spices from Ambika's range.
What is Panch Phoron?
The term "Panch Phoron" translates to "Five Spices," where "Panch" means "five" and "Phoron" refers to "spice," particularly those that are tempered in oil to release their full aroma.
This aromatic spice mix consists of five basic whole spices:
- Cumin Seeds: Small, ridged seeds with a warm, earthy flavor.
- Brown Mustard Seeds: Tiny seeds that add a tangy and slightly spicy note.
- Nigella Seeds (Kalonji): Black seeds with a mild, nutty flavor and a hint of onion.
- Fennel Seeds: Sweet and slightly licorice-flavored seeds.
- Methi Seeds (Fenugreek): Bitter seeds that lend a unique depth to the mix.
How to Make a Spice Mix:
- Combine equal amounts of five whole spices of your choice.
- Mix thoroughly to ensure an even blend.
Note: If you are concerned about bitterness when stir-frying, consider reducing the amount of fenugreek (methi) seeds slightly.
